Een stroom van geest en klank uit Chili. Μετάνοια betekent verandering van bewustzijn, een verschuiving voorbij de grenzen van rede. De zeven composities volgen dat pad tot in de kern van waanzin, maar onder die storm schuilt een melancholie die nooit verdwijnt.
De teksten vormen een cyclus van afdaling en wedergeboorte. In Afterlife herrijst de mens uit as en water. Cenotaph of Hundreds Eyes verbrandt de oude goden en zoekt een nieuwe orde in het eigen binnenste. Fabric of Reality scheurt de sluier van de zintuigen. Shuttered Emotions toont de botsing tussen religie en verzet, tussen stem en stilte. In Labyrinth of Illusions daalt de geest af in droom en symboliek, door pijn naar inzicht. Mercurius Vivus herstelt het evenwicht, geest en materie versmelten tot een spiegel. The Monster’s Lair sluit af met zelfherkenning: de mens kijkt in het gelaat van het wezen dat hij vreest en ziet zichzelf.
De muziek is meedogenloos en bezielend tegelijk. Drums razen als stormen. Tremoloriffs verweven wanhoop met schoonheid. De bas pulseert als een bloedstroom door steen. De stem verschijnt als bezeten ziel, soms roepend vanuit het lichaam, soms dalend als een schaduw over de klank, soms als een spook dat boven de composities zweeft en de laatste rest van menselijkheid uitblaast. De productie behoudt helderheid zonder de rauwe randen te verliezen.
Tussen de furie hoor je iets breekbaars. Een herinnering aan verlies, een gevoel van eenzaamheid dat door elk nummer sijpelt. Die melancholie maakt Metanoia zo meeslepend. Hypnosinosis had perfect kunnen thuishoren in de catalogus van Terratur Possessions. Hun klank bezit dezelfde ernst, dezelfde combinatie van extase en berusting die bij dat label tot uitdrukking komt.
Μετάνοια duurt een uur en houdt de aandacht gevangen tot de laatste noot. Hypnosinosis was mij onbekend, maar dit debuut klinkt als een openbaring. De digitale versie is te beluisteren via Bandcamp. De fysieke uitgave verschijnt binnenkort via Ascension Records.

A current of spirit and sound rises from Chile. Μετάνοια means a change of perception, a shift beyond the limits of reason. The seven compositions trace that path to the core of madness, yet beneath the storm lingers a melancholy that never fades.
The lyrics form a cycle of descent and rebirth. In Afterlife man rises from ash and water. Cenotaph of Hundreds Eyes burns the old gods and searches for a new order within. Fabric of Reality tears the veil of the senses. Shuttered Emotions shows the clash between religion and revolt, between voice and silence. In Labyrinth of Illusions the spirit descends through dream and symbol, finding truth through suffering. Mercurius Vivus restores balance, mind and matter merging into a mirror. The Monster’s Lair closes with self-recognition: man faces the creature he fears and finally sees himself.
The music is relentless and inspired. Drums surge like tempests. Tremolo riffs weave despair into beauty. The bass pulses like a bloodstream through stone. The voice appears as a possessed soul — sometimes crying from the body, sometimes descending as a shadow over the sound, sometimes like a ghost hovering above the compositions, exhaling the last breath of humanity. The production keeps its clarity yet preserves the raw edges.
Amid the fury lies something fragile. A memory of loss, a sense of solitude that runs through every song. That melancholy makes Metanoia so enthralling. Hypnosinosis would fit naturally among the releases of Terratur Possessions. Their sound carries the same gravity, the same blend of ecstasy and resignation that defines that label’s spirit.
Μετάνοια lasts an hour and holds the listener captive until the final note. Hypnosinosis was unknown to me, yet this debut feels like a revelation. The digital version is available on Bandcamp. The physical edition will soon be released by Ascension Records.
