Bokkerijders take their name from the gangs that terrorised the southern Low Countries during the eighteenth century and were said by popular legend to have sold their souls to the Devil. Anyone expecting folklore can leave those expectations at the door. Crush Kill Destroy, the first full-length album by this collective from the Ghent region, is released through Mexico’s Personal Records and follows the 2023 EP Silver Dust and Swords of Gold. This is hard-hitting metal in which black, speed, thrash and punk collide. Someone else can worry about which label to put on it.
Ashen Scream opens with a riff that immediately bares its teeth. The title track plunges deeper into the filth, coarser in texture, dirtier in tone, with all its rawness intact. Calcination Pyre keeps things short and direct, and that is enough to convince. Jeffrey Andreka screams over it all with a voice that refuses to smooth out a single rough edge. The production hits hard, allowing the guitars, bass and drums to come through with full force.
The longer tracks feature more frequent tempo changes. Primordial Phosphorous Eclipse begins with jerky, nervous riffing before erupting into a barrage of blastbeats. Halfway through Locked in Gilded Chains Are the Guillotine’s Blade, an almost pagan, folk-like atmosphere creeps in, until the drums unleash another assault. Miracle Osmosis and closing track Fire Chaser also stretch out, maintaining the listener’s attention through shifts in dynamics.
The guitar solos appear exactly where the songs need them, make their mark and disappear back into the riffs. Nobody is trying to steal the spotlight, which makes them all the more memorable.
There is grief hanging over this record as well. Guitarist Wouter Lemmens passed away in September 2025, and Crush Kill Destroy honours his memory. Bokkerijders continue as a trio: Niels Verbeke on drums, Laurens Oostrom on guitar and Jeffrey Andreka on vocals and bass.
With Crush Kill Destroy, Bokkerijders deliver a slab of unadulterated metal, rooted in the old school and played with conviction that bleeds from every riff. Across eight tracks, the iron never gets a chance to cool.
