Two years after the slightly more mature Pächschwarz, these Swiss degenerates crawl once again from their rancid lair. Parallel to Chotzä, the musicians also leave their mark on the Swiss black metal scene through Malphas. With this sixth full-length album they unleash a nihilistic wall of sound weighing a thousand tons of steel upon the listener. The title literally translates as Nails, Rivets, Barbed Wire. This is pure antisocial black metal, soaked in a filthy rock ’n’ roll attitude and spat out entirely in their own provincial Bernese dialect. A language that perfectly complements the singer’s weathered, alcohol-soaked throat.
From the moment the needle hits the vinyl, it becomes clear that the visual presentation allows no compromises either. The cover and booklet artwork, featuring the photographer herself as the model, exude decay, fetishism and provocation. The poster included with the LP follows the same path. Everything forms a coherent whole: dirty, uncompromising and driven by a complete contempt for the world around it. Beneath that rancid exterior lies a surprisingly well-crafted album. This Swiss duo hammers their unique brand of Mundart Black Metal deep beneath the skin with rusty nails. Every track is infused with punk energy down to its very core, yet the material sounds more dynamic, sharper and more refined than much of their earlier work.
The album opens unexpectedly strong with Hymnus Ad Luciferum, after which the band fully unveils its universe of caked mud and blackened filth. Beneath layers of dirt, alcohol and decay lurks the same spirit of decadence and self-destruction that haunted the finest moments of Carpathian Forest, although Chotzä sound rougher, more earthy and unmistakably rooted in the streets of Bern. Missgeburt rolls forward on a casual guitar line and a compelling rhythm while never losing its grimy atmosphere. The title track, Negu, Nietä, Schtachudraht, develops into a song that stubbornly lodges itself in the listener’s memory. Ir Autschtadt stands among the album’s highlights. Brutal vocals and fast black metal passages are intersected by an unexpected keyboard line that lends the chorus an almost dignified and sinister glow.
Towards the end of the journey comes Chotzä vo Bärn, an instrumental eruption lasting barely thirty-seven seconds, striking instantly with its uncontrolled aggression. Afterwards, Schlangä closes the album on an unexpected note of melancholy. A form of melancholy infected with mental vermin and decay, making it resonate all the more deeply.
On tracks such as D’Hymnä, the listener is buried beneath a torrent of disgust, alcoholism and self-destruction. The production keeps everything clear without washing away the accumulated filth. Guitar solos cut through the material like rusty blades while the rhythm section continues its relentless assault. Negu, Nietä, Schtachudraht unites black metal, punk and rock ’n’ roll in a manner that seems to belong exclusively to Chotzä. An album that smells of filth, tastes of cheap alcohol and leaves its marks on the skin like barbed wire. Their strongest work to date.
As if this assault were not enough, a new Demo 2026 surfaced barely two months after the release of this album. While Negu, Nietä, Schtachudraht is still spinning relentlessly, new material is already lurking in the shadows. The hunt for that demo has already begun.
