Brussel. De ondergrond ademt, en wat eruit opstijgt draagt de naam Erbeet Azhak. Dit is het geesteskind van Corvus Von Burtle, bekend van Cult of Erinyes, Wolvennest, Aerdryk en LVTHN, een man die weet wat hij bezweert. Een demo in 2024 volstond om de aandacht te grijpen. Nu spreekt hij zijn volledig manifest uit, negen nummers over verval en uitroeiing, opgenomen in zijn eigen schuilplaats en afgewerkt door Déhà in Blackout Studio, uitgebracht via Amor Fati Productions.
De productie verstikt en ademt tegelijk. Organisch, rauw, zonder genade voor het oor. Corvus trok gelijkgestemde zielen aan: S. Iblis van Possession die melodisch ingewikkelde soli in de duisternis injecteert, drummer Laye Louhenapessy die ranselt en scheurt, Onbra Oscoura die de lage registers met bezeten kracht vult. Déhà hield de knoppen vast zonder de ranzige kern te polijsten. Het klinkt zoals het moet klinken: als iets dat weigert te behagen.
Mother of Serpent opent als een rituele aanroeping, giftig getokkel vergezeld van een even giftige leadpartij. Het is echter The Weakness of Our Cycle dat de werkelijke tanden blootlegt. Ritualistisch, occult, meanderend riffwerk dat vrijwel onmiddellijk onder de huid kruipt. De droge snareaanslag beitelt het ritme vast terwijl het vocale palet van Corvus zich als een bankschroef rond de aandacht klemt. The Wings of Liberation en Unworthy but Lucid onthullen een Fins getinte melodische sensibiliteit, haast beklijvende leads die de onverbiddelijkheid scherper maken in plaats van verzachten.
Lecherous Angels is waar dit album zijn meest duistere gedaante aanneemt. Corvus beschikt over een venijnige strot, maar gastzanger Z.D. van LVTHN rijt hier een bijna geheelde wonde weer open. Zijn uithalen grenzen aan het onmenselijke, bezeten en hallucinant, een duivelsuitdrijving die volledig ontspoort. Death to the Self sleurt de luisteraar verder mee in dit vocale inferno. The Inner Circle sluit het geheel af met een geladen onderbreking die kantelt naar een melodische gitaarsolo, koude adem boven smeulend puin.
Erbeet Azhak levert met Only the Vile Will Remain een beklemmend en compromisloos debuut af dat zich niet meteen gewonnen geeft en dat is precies zijn kracht. Verval en uitroeiing als thematiek, negen nummers als belichaming, en een bandnaam waarvan de betekenis nog wacht om onthuld te worden. Het Belgische zwart gloeit.

Brussels. The underground breathes, and what rises from it bears the name Erbeet Azhak. This is the brainchild of Corvus Von Burtle, known from Cult of Erinyes, Wolvennest, Aerdryk and LVTHN, a man who knows what he conjures. A demo in 2024 was enough to seize attention. Now he delivers his full manifesto, nine tracks of decay and eradication, recorded in his own refuge and finalized by Déhà at Blackout Studio, released through Amor Fati Productions.
The production suffocates and breathes at once. Organic, raw, without mercy for the ear. Corvus gathered kindred forces: S. Iblis of Possession injecting intricately melodic solos into the darkness, drummer Laye Louhenapessy who lashes and tears, Onbra Oscoura filling the lower registers with possessed force. Déhà handled the controls without polishing the rancid core. It sounds as it should: like something that refuses to please.
Mother of Serpent opens as a ritual invocation, poisonous picking accompanied by an equally venomous lead. It is however The Weakness of Our Cycle that reveals the true fangs. Ritualistic, occult, meandering riffwork that settles beneath the skin almost immediately. The dry snare strikes carve the rhythm in place while Corvus’ vocal range tightens like a vice around the attention. The Wings of Liberation and Unworthy but Lucid unveil a Finnish-tinged melodic sensibility, almost haunting leads that sharpen rather than soften the severity.
Lecherous Angels is where the album assumes its most sinister form. Corvus possesses a venomous throat, yet guest vocalist Z.D. of LVTHN tears open what had almost healed. His outbursts border on the inhuman, possessed and hallucinatory, an exorcism that spirals out of control. Death to the Self drags the listener deeper into this vocal inferno. The Inner Circle closes the work with a charged interlude that tilts into a melodic guitar solo, cold breath over smouldering ruins.
Erbeet Azhak delivers with Only the Vile Will Remain a suffocating and uncompromising debut that does not yield itself easily, and that is precisely its strength. Decay and eradication as its theme, nine tracks as its embodiment, and a band name whose meaning still waits to be revealed. Belgian black metal burns.
