Sommige demo’s doen geen moeite om zich te verstoppen achter concepten, mystiek of pretentie. Hag uit Poznań gooit vier snijdende tracks op tafel, goed voor vijftien minuten pure, ongecompliceerde en ranzige black metal. Geen omwegen. Geen franje. Twee leden komen uit Nihilvm, een band die expliciet inzet op nihilistische black metal en dissectie. Die invalshoek blijft hier volledig afwezig. Hag vertrekt vanuit een andere spier, een andere drang.
De stijl ligt dicht bij de hoekige koppigheid van Darkthrone tijdens hun “Too Old, Too Cold”-periode. De overeenkomst zit in een compromisloze houding tegenover opsmuk. Riffs bijten onmiddellijk. Drums blijven hakken als een bot mes. Vocals geven bevelen. Deze black metal staat in zijn eigen koude directheid. Onwrikbaar. Zonder verontschuldiging.
De vier nummers trekken voorbij zonder leegte achter te laten. Elk stuk functioneert als een korte uithaal, een stomp in het gezicht. Eenvoud werkt hier als kracht, gedragen door overtuiging. Ancient Dead Productions herkende dat en verankerde de digitale Bandcamp-release meteen op CD. Deze rauwheid bleef niet ongezien.
De afsluiter zet het zegel. Hypnotic Reign draait rond één riff die koppig blijft terugkeren tot hij zich vastzet in het hoofd. Die laatste riff jaagt je in een roes. Herhaling duwt door tot je er high van wordt en niets anders meer telt. Een simpele frase, eindeloos doorgeduwd, tot weerstand oplost en enkel die ene slag overblijft.
Hag levert met deze demo iets onwrikbaars af. Ruwe black metal vraagt geen uitleg. Het blijft hard, direct en ranzig tot op het bot.

The style sits close to the angular stubbornness of Darkthrone during their Too Old, Too Cold period. The connection lies in a shared, uncompromising rejection of embellishment. Riffs bite immediately. Drums keep hacking like a blunt knife. Vocals issue commands. This black metal stands in its own cold directness. Unyielding. Without apology.
The four tracks rush past without leaving a sense of absence. Each piece functions as a short strike, a punch to the face. Simplicity operates as force, carried by conviction. Ancient Dead Productions recognized this and anchored the digital Bandcamp release directly onto CD. This rawness did not go unnoticed.
The closer seals the deal. Hypnotic Reign revolves around a single riff that keeps returning until it locks itself into the mind. That final riff drives you into a haze. Repetition pushes through until you get high on it and nothing else matters. A simple phrase, endlessly forced forward, until resistance dissolves and only that single blow remains.
With this demo, Hag delivers something unmovable. Raw black metal requires no explanation. It stays hard, direct and rancid to the bone.
