English version
Corpus Putridum is the first sign of life from Necrófago, a band from Caxias do Sul, South-Brazil, that has only existed since 2025. Nothing can be found on Metal Archives or Bandcamp yet. Vocalist Aglasis only wants to truly emerge when the music, lyrics, artwork and production match what he has in mind. These three tracks offer a first glimpse of what is fermenting beneath the ground.
Anyone looking for a polished introduction has wandered into the wrong graveyard. Necrófago plays raw black/death and leaves technical embellishment by the wayside. The riffs are stripped to the bone and drag themselves along through simple, repetitive patterns for agonising stretches. They crawl and stagger until the tempo suddenly picks up and the rotting mass lurches into motion. Even then, everything remains filthy and rudimentary.
When Necrófago slows down, the demo is at its strongest. Sluggish riffs take on the character of a grimy death march and are repeated so relentlessly that they sink their teeth in. Mid-tempo passages break open that sluggishness, before the death march resumes. Aglasis scrapes his throat beneath the music rather than rising above it, as though buried somewhere among the rubble. A derailing solo drags the whole thing a little deeper into the gutter.
The instruments are packed tightly together and reek of mould, as though these songs were boarded up in a damp cellar and forgotten there. Corpus Putridum is not a definitive calling card. Two of these tracks are precursors to an almost completed album, while the third will appear on an upcoming EP. Aglasis considers the band a work in progress and warns that everything may still change. He wants to make the material even more merciless.
That makes this demo a filthy crack in a door that is still far from open. What slips through is primitive, unpolished and, at times, wonderfully lumbering. If this is merely an intermediate form of Necrófago, that mud can happily stay stuck to our boots.
