Nuclearhammer – Xaos 333 (EP 2026) Review

(English version below)

Sabbatic Wine & the Devil’s Graal opent met ruim drie minuten onverbiddelijke woede.

English version

For eight years, these recordings were left to rot before Iron Bonehead Productions finally unleashed them. Nuclearhammer, the Canadian duo from Toronto who have been stirring their own black filth since 2005, return after the 2023 demo Xaos Tenawas with three tracks recorded back in 2018. Axaazaroth and Doomhammer need barely seventeen minutes to grind everything to dust.

Xaos 333 is war metal of the most savage kind. The drumming is driven by a sickening frenzy, the guitars spew twisted riffs and the bestial vocals sound raw and inhuman. The production is filthy and oversaturated. Everything merges into a churning mass of noise in which the individual instruments are sometimes difficult to distinguish. Deep beneath the pounding, bizarre soundscapes lurk, distorted by an excess of reverb. Their hypnotic pull slowly creeps through the racket. The endless repetition of primitive riffs draws you deeper in, until the violence becomes a rhythm and the rhythm an incantation.

Sabbatic Wine & the Devil’s Graal opens with just over three minutes of relentless fury. Mother of Poisons, running for almost ten minutes, forms the crushing centrepiece. The drums rage without pause, dissonant riffs force their way through the sonic mass and the primitive repetitions lodge themselves in your skull. The track keeps grinding away, never allowing you a moment to catch your breath. The aggression gradually becomes so monotonous and all-consuming that it leaves you numb. Vocus Magicae brings proceedings to a close after roughly four minutes, sustaining the trance until the final note.

Nuclearhammer have developed their own particular brand of madness. The primitive fury, distorted sounds and possessed repetitions make Xaos 333 an unpleasant listening experience, a brief rite from which you only awaken once the final sound has faded away.
