Triumphal Vengeance is het werk van één man. Nebel. Ooit geworteld in Chili, nu opererend vanuit Oostenrijk, en al twee EP’s lang bezig met het uitbouwen van een eigen zone. Spears of Conquest is zijn eerste volledige album, een debuut dat aanvoelt als het moment waarop alle voorafgaande schetsen samenvallen.
What Fire Reveals opent met een kort orgelfragment en valt daarna meteen in een rauwe, pulserende beweging. De 90’s‑Noorse fundamenten liggen er open bij, al krijgt alles een Pagan‑lading die uit de melodieën zelf opstijgt. Geen folklore, geen theatrale omlijsting, enkel gitaren die gloeien en blijven duwen. Het geheel klinkt alsof Nebel de kern van zijn project rechtstreeks uit een ondergrondse stroom haalt.
Cold Blazing Steel laat horen hoe hecht alles in elkaar zit. IJzige riffs, achtergrondzang die door de mix sluipt, clean strumming die een dunne laag spanning legt over het geheel. De chant hangt als rook rond de gitaren, zonder de muziek te verzachten of te onderbreken. De elementen die op de EP’s nog los van elkaar stonden, bewegen hier in één vloeiende massa, alsof ze dezelfde temperatuur hebben aangenomen.
Burning Bright en Procession Chant houden dat gevoel vast. Kleine verschuivingen in tempo, melodieën die blijven hangen, drums die dreigend blijven zonder te overheersen. With Lifted Swords en Our Enemies at the Stakes! sluiten af in dezelfde toon. Geen theatrale uitbarsting, geen kunstmatige opbouw. De kracht zit in de volharding, in de manier waarop de intensiteit overal overeind blijft.
Death Revelations brengt de tape‑versie uit, en dat voelt vanzelfsprekend. Hun catalogus draagt al jaren een ondergrondse stempel die geen uitleg nodig heeft. Spears of Conquest past daar moeiteloos tussen. What Fire Reveals opens with a brief organ fragment before immediately dropping into a raw, pulsating motion. The 90s Norwegian foundations lie exposed, yet everything is charged with a Pagan weight rising directly from the melodies themselves. No folklore, no theatrical framing, only guitars that glow and keep pushing forward. The whole record sounds as if Nebel is drawing the core of his project straight from an underground current.
Cold Blazing Steel shows how tightly everything is bound together. Icy riffs, background vocals slipping through the mix, clean strumming laying a thin layer of tension across the whole. The chant hangs around the guitars like smoke, without softening or interrupting the music. Elements that on the EPs still stood apart now move as one continuous mass, as if they have reached the same temperature.
Burning Bright and Procession Chant maintain that sense of cohesion. Minor shifts in tempo, melodies that linger, drums that remain threatening without dominating. With Lifted Swords and Our Enemies at the Stakes! close in the same vein. No theatrical outburst, no artificial build-up. The strength lies in persistence, in the way intensity is upheld throughout.
