Unholy Fire brengt met At the Tyrant’s Stronghold een eerbetoon aan de fundamenten van de melodische black metal. Deze cassette op het label Blud Auk Tapes bevat drie tracks die de sfeer van de vroege Zweedse school ademen. De invloed van Dissection stroomt bij deze band duidelijk door de aderen; het resultaat blijft onvervalst rauw. Unholy Fire delivers At the Tyrant’s Stronghold as a tribute to the very foundations of melodic black metal. This cassette, released through Blud Auk Tapes, contains three tracks that breathe the atmosphere of the early Swedish school. The influence of Dissection runs clearly through the veins of this band, yet the result remains unfiltered and raw. Although the names involved are known as Filth Of The Holy Redeemer and Tempter Of Impious Conquest, the identities behind these pseudonyms remain shrouded in mystery.
The title track “At the Tyrant’s Stronghold” sets the tone with icy tremolo melodies and a voice that echoes like a reincarnation of Jon Nödtveidt. The production by Evan Mersky retains a necessary analog sharpness, allowing the guitars to constantly radiate a freezing cold. On the second track, “Crowned in Blood,” an aggressive and majestic tempo takes command. The music carries a malignant force, preserving that cold melodic essence which defined the genre in the mid-1990s.
The demo closes with “The Depths of My Infernal Sleep.” In this third piece, the melodies drown in a dense, suffocating atmosphere. It stands as a worthy final chapter to a demo that has fully absorbed the legacy of classics such as The Somberlain, while maintaining its raw edge. With this release, Unholy Fire offers convincing proof that the black flame of the past continues to burn fiercely within the modern American underground.
