English version
Two names, one soul. Wampyric Rites and Oath of Malignancy share a label, WolfKult Religion, and with vocalist Wampyric Strigoi and drummer Satanic Warlord, part of their line-up as well. On The Oath they appear as two faces of the same Ecuadorian entity, each following its own direction, forged from the same fire. The cover captures that unity well: a painterly scene of hooded, weathered figures gathered around a cauldron above the flames, a crucified form rising above the ritual, while a crouched figure watches from a pedestal. Ochre light pushes through the darkness, like a flame that refuses to die out.
Wampyric Rites opens with “Transilvania” and takes the lead right away. The track crawls forward slowly, wrapped in a musty, nocturnal atmosphere where the melodies draw their strength mainly from repetition. The raw production reinforces the feeling that this was recorded far from civilisation. Everything sounds primitive and distant, yet never aimless. Beneath the grainy surface lies enough melody to keep its seven-plus minutes compelling. Riffs repeat until their hypnotic pull fully takes hold, leaving “Transilvania” sounding genuinely possessed.
Oath of Malignancy takes a different route with “Necro Sacramento Impio”. Dragging riffs, a prominent bass and an occult atmosphere form the foundation, with a pacing and ritualistic undertone that suit the material well. The track carries its own unmistakable signature and stands firmly on its own.
The Oath places neither contribution above the other. With two tracks and just over fourteen minutes, this split shows how one entity can unfold in two different directions, each with its own strength and character.
Two voices from the same crypt, one blood flowing through both veins.
